School Readiness

School Readiness is a sliding-scale, fee-based preschool program for children who are 3 or 4 years old to help prepare them for kindergarten. Participants engage in classroom activities that encourage development across all the ECIP areas.

School Readiness 4’s is open to children who are 3 or 4 years old by September 1st and potty trained (priority placement for 4 year olds).

Because School Readiness is not fully funded by the MN Department of Education, participants are charged a fee to attend based on the sliding scale below. Extenuating circumstances and students who meet the risk criteria can override the income qualification.

Tuition Requirement

School Readiness Preschool is an optional program prior to entering Kindergarten. We are excited to be awarded with voluntary pre-kindergarten funding from the state of Minnesota. This funding allows us to provide School Readiness to all 4 year olds at no cost to families. Unfortunately, this does not cover the cost for 3 year olds. We will continue to use the sliding scale above. 

Income in columns C-D qualifies a student for a Pathway 2 (MN Dept. of Education) or Pathway 1 scholarship (Region 5: Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, Wadena). Scholarships are limited, and will be disbursed based on income, on a first-come, first-served basis. These scholarships are awarded to families who demonstrate a financial need or students who demonstrate a need to attend preschool to be school ready for kindergarten. 

Families who experience hardship are encouraged to visit with the Elementary Principal about a School Readiness Scholarship. Extenuating circumstances and students who meet the risk criteria can override the income qualification. 

Checks can be written to Staples-Motley Schools with your child’s full name and “school readiness” in the memo. Cash can be paid in person, in the Elementary office, not with the teacher. Online payments can be made in the school webstore at https://staplesmotley.sacc.rschooltoday.com/auth/login. 


NOTE: An account that is beyond 30 days due with no payment arrangement is subject to discontinuation of preschool services. Please talk to the Elementary Principal if you experience hardship and need to adjust your payment plan.

 Annual payments qualify for a 5% discount if the entire payment is made prior to September 30th.

Pay School Readiness Fees **S-M Schools bills for early learning services in advance. Payment is due by the 25th of the month prior (i.e. Sept. bill is due August 25th).
